Arizona legislators and their staff members are invited to join us for a non-partisan overview of Arizona Criminal Law in practice and as a matter of law. An academic perspective will also shed light on national practice and policy. Presenters will include judges, law enforcement, prosecutors, defense attorneys, and criminal legal scholars.
Topics include:
• Case initiation and charging;
• Initial appearance, arraignment, and pre-trial release;
• Pre-trial proceedings, case evaluation, and plea bargaining; and
• Sentencing, incarceration, and reentry.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided. A special lunchtime panel will discuss the recent United States Supreme Court decision of Oklahoma v. Castro-Huerta, which impacts prosecution jurisdiction of crimes on Indian reservations.
This is an in-person, invite-only event.
